« Shockwave Supernova » a été enregistré à la fin de l’année dernière au Skywalker Sound Lucas Valley, en Californie. Joe Satriani s’est entouré d’un trio de musiciens de classe mondiale : le claviériste et guitariste  Mike Keneally,  le batteur Marco Minnemann et le bassiste Bryan Beller.

« Je ne pouvais pas rêver d’un meilleur groupe , dit Satriani.

L’album s’appuie à nouveau sur la co-production de l’ingénieur John Cuniberti.
