EGO KILL TALENT album THE DANCE BETWEEN EXTREMES

Une ardeur explosive (Now, Lifeporn), une flamme mélodique (The Call, The Reason ), un éclat New Wave (Deliverance), un scintillement pop/rock (Silence, Our Song), un crépitement Hard Rock FM (In Your Dreams Tonight), un éclair Metal (Sin and Saints), un brasier Rap/Nu  Metal (Starving Drones (A Dinner Talk)), une flambée alternative (Diamonds and Landmines, Beautiful).

EGO KILL TALENT album THE DANCE BETWEEN EXTREMES (ENGLISH VERSION)

It was in 2014, in Sao Paulo, that Ego Kill Talent took roots thanks to singer Jonathan Correa and guitarist Theo van der Loo. But the group also includes drummer Jean Dolabella, who worked for 5 years at Sepultura, Niper Boaventura on guitar and Raphael Miranda on bass.

The quintet has already been talked about with a first album in 2017, followed in 2018 by an EP titled Live in Europe 2017.

THE DANCE BETWEEN EXTREMES is therefore the second album of the Brazilian group. It follows the two EPs released previously. “The Dance Between” composed of 7 songs, released in December 2020; preceded by the first part “The Dance”, composed of 3 songs and released in July 2020. THE DANCE BETWEEN EXTREMES should have been released in spring 2020 but, due to a pandemic, the quintet had to change tactics and it is in the form of a trilogy that this album had to be unveiled. A great way to keep fans going until this dance between extremes is completely released.

Five new tracks are added to the 7 tracks already unveiled and the twelve tracks of THE DANCE BETWEEN EXTREMES are as intense as each other. A range of influences associated with great mastery. Alternative rock, prog, pop, metal, little touches of Rap, grunge, among other styles.

Ego Kill Talent has a creative field of a very wide amplitude.

As Theo explained to us during our interview, the title of the album is, of course, linked to the vagaries of life, but it occurred to them before the pandemic. Indeed this dance between the extremes, everyone was already living it before the pandemic. This virus is just one of the extremes. The title refers to life in general, it is a dance between happiness and sadness, love and fear. « I guess we’ve been struggling with this since the beginning of mankind. »

All the songs have their own story, but there is a common thread that connects them. It is besides, what the group wants to show through each of the clips and create a kind of bridge to go from one to the other like a film series. Then the imagination of each spectator / listener is free of interpretation. Everyone can let their Ego speak, like the Brazilians do.

But no EGO supremacy in this group.

Everyone composes together, even exchanges the instruments and participates in the writing of the texts. A perfect and very organic osmosis which matches 100%. There is a saying that goes: « Too much ego might kill your talent », and the five musicians took advantage of this saying by releasing the main traits of their musical personality while remaining on an equal footing.

This is how, in a very natural way, the quintet has nourished its compositions with its various influences. The feeling of the moment guided the artists in the choice of their instruments and in their way of transcribing their emotions. They can draw into their creativity in a completely unlimited way, since each artist will play the piece differently depending on the instrument they have in their hands. This source of ideas leaves them a formidable freedom of writing, in a way inexhaustible.

The result is a remarkable fluidity in the compositions from which escape a multitude of colors. We move with ease between fast passages and others more melodious, a few breaks and rhythmic variations, moments of emotions, moments of fusion. Each musical genre brings additional richness to this mix of tempos.

These twelve songs really reveal all the artistic talent of the five musicians.

Now’s riff is a masterful detonator. The start of an attractive groove whose bead will burn from one track to another with a more or less accentuated incandescence. Explosive ardor (Now, Lifeporn), melodic flame (The Call, The Reason), New Wave sparkle (Deliverance), pop / rock sparkle (Silence, Our Song), Hard Rock FM crackle (In Your Dreams Tonight) ), a Metal Flash (Sin and Saints), a Rap / Nu Metal blaze (Starving Drones (A Dinner Talk)), an alternative blaze (Diamonds and Landmines, Beautiful).

Ego Kill Talent gave birth to a formidable Hybrid music which brings together many universes but whose light shines from one extreme to another without ever wavering.
